Armed with my trusty 35mm Canon AE-1, a suitcase and an engagement ring, me and Jemma hit the road in June 2011 having just discovered she was expecting our first child. It was her birthday weekend and a surprise trip to Brighton had been arranged by yours truly!! So, off we set in our beloved 1969 MGB GT (british racing green!) south down the M1 in very high spirits following the good news, and fingers crossed, with more to follow….

We arrived in Brighton after a joyful 5 hour drive, and toasted the weekend ahead with a cold bottle of lager in the hotel (Jemma had 7up!). By this time, I’d already checked my bag 15 times to make sure the ring was still there, and it was, but always best to check! So, thoughts then turned to where the question would be popped. The following morning we strolled into Brighton, and the somewhat obvious idea I had dreamt up (that of being on one knee at the end of the pier in blistering sun) soon went out of the window, Jemma did nothing but moan about the wind and cold, so I left her inside to play on the arcade games and took some photo’s!! (see below)

After a busy hour or so snapping away on the pier and being battered by the sea breeze, we set off in search of a nice little pub to warm up and get some lunch. By this point I was a gibbering wreck, and Jemma wondered why I was acting strange, so rather nervously, I did what had to be done……

And she said ‘Yes”!!!! (Applause from the other tables in the pub!) – A pretty brilliant weekend!
