I’m gonna go straight into this blog post with a mega lesson for all you “soon-to-be-married” peeps, sponsored by Ailsa and Josh, here goes……. The weather doesn’t control your wedding, you do! Did you hear me?!!! It doesn’t matter! IT. DOESN’T. MATTER!!!! I get it, I’m sure when Ailsa and Josh booked the Masseria Torre Coccaro on the heel of Italy’s coastline, they partially booked it for the weather, and I understand that when you start your wedding day (having had 3-4 days of stunning sunshine!), that the sight of high winds and driving rain on the morning of your big day would fill you with a tiny bit of disappointment, but it’s at this point you have a decision to make! Ailsa and Josh had a decision to make!! You let it bother you, or you don’t! Before I outline how these options work out a little more, let me tell you about Ailsa and Josh first!
So it’s fair to say I’ve known Josh and his family for a few years now, we grew up on the same street, and although I have a few years on Josh, I went to school and cubs/scouts with his brother, Sam. So, I say I’ve known them a few years now, I really mean 30 years!!!!! When Josh asked me if I could come to Italy for his wedding in October 2018, it immediately got highlighted in the calendar as a weekend to look forward to, even more so given his mum, Sally, is my number one super fan!! Hey Sal!!!!!! And Dave, can’t forget Dave!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting Ailsa for the first time on a little pre-wedding shoot in Derby, we all hung out for an hour or so, ate doughnuts, took some pictures, and talked about Italy, and Sally!!! It was obvious, very quickly, how crazily suited to each other these guys are, and that was only further enhanced after the 4 days I shared with them in Puglia. You only have to see their faces during the wet and windy ceremony to notice how much this weekend meant to them both.
So this is it, a combination of all 4 of those days, celebrating what was a rollercoaster of a weekend, and one that I’m super pleased to have witnessed and shared with them all. There was sunshine, wind, rain, laughter, dancing, crying, drinking, a bit of smooching, umbrellas, embarrassing pictures, and as with any wedding in Italy, Negroni’s and Aperol on tap!!!
Before we dive into the images, I just want to wrap up the decisions I mentioned at the start. You have 2 options if it rains on your big day;
Option 1, you let it bother you, get upset, and I can say with absolute certainty that the day is not going to go well. How could it? You’re upset!! The people around you are upset because you’re upset!!
Option 2, accept it, stick a big smile on that face, laugh and embrace the craziness of it all, remember why you’re there and why you’re doing it, then you let this happen……
